ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Multiple gunshots were fired into an Albany home early Saturday, June 6, just three days after the family received a threat that the house would be shot up.
According to the Albany Police Department (APD), officers responded to a home on Saturday morning in reference to an aggravated assault involving shots being fired.
An Albany grandmother told police she was asleep when the gunfire started, waking her up at approximately 4 a.m. After the gunshots stopped, the grandmother said she went into her granddaughter’s room and woke her up to inspect the damage. APD said the grandmother did not call police immediately after the shots were fired.
The grandmother’s daughter later told police that another family member got word on June 3 that the grandmother’s house would be shot up. She called 911 and spoke with an officer about the threat on June 3.
The family said they believe the incident was a retaliation effort from gang members who saw a family member’s picture listed on social media as a suspect in a previous shooting that is being investigated.
APD officers reportedly observed bullet holes in three bedrooms of the home. No injuries were reported, according to the incident report.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
