Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany Police Chief Michael Persley said police will not ask any questions to those who bring firearms to dispose of to the gun buyback event being held on Saturday, Nov. 15.
Instead, Persley said anyone who turns a gun in will receive a $100 gift card. Persley said he hopes this decision, and the entire Gun Buyback initiative, will take more guns out the streets to promote a safer community.
The Gun Buyback requires all individuals who participate to leave their unloaded firearms in the trunk of their car for an officer to safely remove. Persley also said APD will accept any expired or unwanted prescription pills for disposal.
There is no reward for prescription pills, only the firearms.
The event will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albany Civic Center.
