TIFT COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A gun was found in a vehicle on Tift County High School’s campus.

According to Dana Spurlin with the Tift County Schools (TCS), a student was taken into custody on Tuesday, Sept. 16, after a gun was found in their vehicle in the student parking lot.

The school was alerted to this through Anonymous Alerts. The alert did not indicate that a threat had been made or existed, TCS says.

However, this alert prompted a response from Tift County High School staff, Tift County system security, and the Tifton Police Department (TPD). Administrators searched the vehicle, where they found the weapon and ammunition.

After the weapon was found, the student was removed from class and taken into custody by local law enforcement. The incident was turned over to TPD.
