PLAINS, Ga. (WALB) - With former President Jimmy Carter turning 100 years old on Oct. 1, many events have been scheduled in his honor.
Events
- The Navy will perform a jet flyover at 12:30 p.m. over Plains to honor the former president who is a Navy veteran. The best places to see the event will be in downtown Plains or Plains High School ballfield (300 N Bond Street).
- The Charters of Freedom setting will be dedicated at 4:30 p.m. at the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park in Plains.
- At the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta, admission will be only $1 (100 cents) and guests will be able to sign his birthday book.
- The Friends of Jimmy Carter will host a birthday concert at Plains High School at 7 p.m. The event is currently sold out.
- Habitat for Humanity is honoring both Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter’s 40th anniversary of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project after a week-long of events culminating on Carter’s birthday with a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota with Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.
- A naturalization ceremony is set to be hosted in Plains as 100 people will become U.S. citizens
- In Atlanta, 100 trees will be planted at the Carter Center and Georgia State Capitol in his honor on Tuesday
