Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Harlem Renaissance Project has named four young artists as Honorary Creative Directors for 2025. This citywide contest celebrates local talent and kicks off a new era of community revitalization in downtown Albany’s Harlem District.

Each student’s winning artwork will be featured on Harlem Renaissance Project merchandise. Proceeds from this initiative will support the three-phase downtown revitalization, specifically Phase One: The Legacy Wellness Center.

The Legacy Wellness Center is the first major development of the Harlem Renaissance Project. This community-centered health and wellness hub in the historic Harlem District will provide affordable, accessible and integrated care when it opens in 2026.

Harlem Renaissance Director Latoya Cutts emphasized the vital role of art in preserving community identity and culture. She highlighted how the Harlem Renaissance Project’s dedication to revitalizing Albany’s historic Harlem District — through investments in healthcare, housing, business and the arts — invites all of Albany to benefit from new opportunities, honoring the past while building an inclusive future.
