CORDELE, Ga. — Three months after Nyeasha Pickens, 19, was reported missing, friends, family, and community members are hoping for answers. They gathered for a vigil Sunday evening at the Cordele Community Center to share support and hope in an effort to bring Pickens home.

"It's a wavering time for the whole family, the entire community. It's the silence of not knowing, the not knowing what happened,” said Pickens’ cousin, Felicia Williams.
Pickens, affectionally known as, 'Mama,' was last seen at an Enmarket gas station located at 402 S. 7th Street in Cordele around 2:00 a.m. on July 5, according to the Cordele Police Department. Since then, the Crisp County Sheriff's Department has now offered a $5,000 reward for information about the young woman's disappearance. Law enforcement agencies say they're continuing to pursue leads, but so far, they've yet to locate her.

“The investigation is ongoing. There is a joint investigation with the Cordele Police Department, with the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, and all kinds of technical help and investigative help from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation,” said Interim Cordele Police Chief Connie Sampson. “We’re following up on promising leads. A number of the leads are part of the investigation. For that reason, there’s not a lot of information being released to the general public.”
Patrol Commander Danny Hicks of the Cordele Police Department said that while there have been searches for Pickens outside of the county, that is not the main area of focus at this time.
When asked if it is believed Pickens may still be in the area, Hicks stated he couldn’t comment on the question.
“There’s nothing to indicate one way or another on the question you just asked,” said Hicks.
Police say Pickens is about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs around 160 pounds with brown eyes and black or red hair.
