DOUGLAS, Ga. (WALB) - Residents in Coffee County are still without water and power. Some say they have considered going to a hotel and paying $20 an hour just to take a shower.
”We haven’t had a shower since last Wednesday night. I went to this motel and they’re talking about they don’t have power, but you can take a shower, but you have to pay $20 an hour,” one resident said.
Residents say water has been restored in town, but those living on the outskirts have gotten creative in order to shower or use the bathroom.
”No water out here in the country. We don’t have water, so we use bottled water. One bottle to wet yourself and wash off then another bottle to rinse,” said Dana Lennex, a Coffee County said.
Due to the lack of power, residents are surviving off of nonperishable items while the food in the refrigerator spoils.
“We have a grill. We grilled for the neighborhood, but now it’s over with nothing is any good anymore. We are eating Vienna weenies and SPAM out the can, but we are surviving,” Lennex said.
Even with everything these locals have experienced they are still grateful and asking for prayers.
“We were affected really bad by the hurricane thing. I just want everyone to keep us in prayer because we have a lot of rebuilding we have to do,” one local said.
Residents say these are very uncertain times because they don’t know when water or power will be restored, but they commend all of the officials who are working day and night to get things back to normal.
