Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Georgia Department of Natural Resources announced a new program to help people with a mobility disability enjoy the outdoors and the natural resources the state has to offer.

The program is called “Outdoors Beyond Barriers.” It’s a program for adaptive hunting, fishing, and hiking across the state. The goal is to have properties dedicated solely for people with mobility impairments in each of the DNR’s six regions across the state. They will also hold several adaptive hunting and fishing events around the state and offer the training and tools necessary to get people with mobility impairments back out in the outdoors.

“Our major mission is to conserve our natural resources,” said Walter Rabon, Commissioner of Georgia Department of Natural Resources. “And one thing that’s often overlooked is the disabled community in our state...but I think that we owe it to our disabled, population to offer them those opportunities as well.”
