Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Dangerously hot and humid Thursday afternoon. Highs topped mid-upper 90s but it felt much hotter 105°-110° even 117° in Valdosta. Few changes with another scorcher tomorrow. Almost a carbon of Thursday with only a few cooling showers. Continue to hydrate preferably with water and check on those with illnesses, the elderly and small kids to make sure they’re staying cool.
For the weekend a front drops into the region with drier air which probably won’t make it all the way across #SGA. Expect temperatures and humidity to drop just a bit so not as hot nor humid. Isolated to scattered showers are likely through next week.
In the tropics, Debby downgraded to a tropical depression with 35mph winds. The storm continues to wreck havoc as it tracks north through the Carolinas with flooding rain and severe storms including tornadoes. We can finally say good-bye Debby as it tracks into Canada this weekend.
There’s a new disturbance in the eastern Atlantic which has a medium 40% chance for development the next 7 days. It bears watching. Thursday NOAA updated its forecast for the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. Its continues with a highly likely 90% probability of an above average season which peaks September 10 and runs through November 30.
Be prepared and stay prepared SGA!
