WASHINGTON (TNND) — Stanley issued a recall on 2.6 million travel mugs Thursday citing concerns about the lid shrinking when exposed to heat leading to a burn hazard.
The recall involves all "Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel mugs sold in the United States" between June 2016 and December 2024, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The 12 and 16-ounce cups were often sold at Amazon, Walmart, Dick's Sporting Goods and Target for between $20 and $50, the agency said.
To date, there have been 91 reports, including 16 in the U.S., of the recalled travel mugs' lid detaching during use and causing 38 burn injuries worldwide, including two burn injuries in the U.S., with 11 consumers worldwide requiring medical attention, according to the safety commission.
"At Stanley 1913, we are committed to constant improvement and are focused on creating quality products that are built for life," the company wrote on social media.
Customers are urged to reach out to the company to receive a free replacement lid, including shipping.
