Description

Las Vegas (KSNV) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) is investigating after a body was discovered during a welfare check on Wednesday.

The incident occurred just before noon in the 5500 block of Tres Piedras Road, nearVegas Valley Drive and Nellis Blvd. according to police.

Officers are calling it a suspicious death investigation.

Police said around 11:41 a.m. officers responded to a request from a person regarding a welfare check for a 68-year-old woman to make sure she was OK.

The person stated that they had not seen her since late October and she walked her dog regularly and had noticed what they called suspicious activity at the house.

When officers arrived they spoke with the person who made the call and investigated the area outside the house.

After a thorough investigation, officers determined they had enough reason to go inside the house to ensure the safety of the woman.

Once inside, police said they came in contact with a man and a woman who were not the person they were looking for.

Officials added the man and the woman were acting suspiciously but could not tell officers the woman's whereabouts.

While searching the house, officers located a chest freezer which required a locksmith to unlock.

Once the freezer was opened, police said they located the remains of a woman.

LVMPD said homicide detectives have taken over and they're treating this as a homicide investigation, but right now it's being called a suspicious death.

According to police, it is believed she was killed by another person, but it's not a homicide until the cause and manner of death are determined by the coroner.

The man and woman were taken into custody and it appears they are roommates in the house and not related to the victim.

Lt. Johansson said the incident doesn't appear to be random.

Animal Control has taken the animals and a neighbor also helped out.

Police said they are looking for any video and witnesses in the mobile home park.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
