Description
Join community leaders, advocates, and neighbors in Albany for an honest conversation about Black wealth in Southwest Georgia.
Southwest Georgia carries a wealth story the national data too often misses. On August 25th at Albany State University's West Campus Ballroom, we are bringing the Roots of Wealth research and solutions to Albany, connecting the numbers on Black wealth, homeownership, land, entrepreneurship, and Main Street investment to what families, business owners, and advocates across the region are actually living.
This is a focused community gathering over lunch, designed for real talk about what is working, what stands in the way, and what we build next together.
What you can expect
- Localized findings from Roots of Wealth: Unearthing Black Prosperity in the South, with a live walkthrough of the Black Wealth Dashboard and Policy Map Tool zoomed in on Southwest Georgia
- A panel of local practitioners and advocates working on the ground in the region
- Facilitated table conversations where your priorities shape what comes next for the Show Us the Receipts campaign and the Roots of Wealth Coalition Network
- Lunch, networking, and a clear path to stay engaged after the event
Who should be in the room
Community members and leaders, small business owners, faith leaders, advocates, policymakers and elected officials, philanthropy, CDFIs and capital partners, legal and financial service providers, and local press. If you live, work, or invest in Southwest Georgia, you belong here.
Why now
We are in a moment of real demand for community-driven solutions that produce measurable outcomes for our families and our neighborhoods. Evidence-based advocacy rooted in community trust is the most durable path to change, and Southwest Georgia deserves a seat at the table where those decisions get shaped.
