VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - The Valdosta Police Department (VPD) announced on May 14 that two teens were injured in a shooting at a combined graduation and prom after-party on Mother’s Day weekend. Police are asking for the public’s help to find the suspected shooter.

VPD said the incident occurred at about 4 a.m. on May 11 on East Gordon Street. A 17-year-old male was shot in the hip, and a 15-year-old female was shot in the torso, police said. Both victims were treated at the hospital and have since been released.

“During a time of the year when families are celebrating graduations and proms, we are extremely lucky that we do not have families that are planning funerals,” said VPD Chief Leslie Manahan. “We are still looking into who was responsible and allowed this gathering, and we will hold them accountable as well.”

The police department said their investigation revealed that the after-party was a large gathering of teens and adults. The suspected gunman is JaMaurion Fountain, a 21-year-old who VPD considers to be armed and dangerous.

VPD said Fountain allegedly discharged several shots into the crowd after an argument over a cell phone charging cord.

Fountain is facing the following charges, according to the VPD:

  • 5 counts of aggravated assault (felony)
  • 2 counts of cruelty to children in the 1st degree (felony)
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony (felony)
  • Damage to property (felony)
  • Terroristic threats (felony)

VPD said they do not know Fountain’s location. They said anyone with information about his location should call 911, and that if anyone is hindering Fountain’s apprehension, they will face criminal charges.
