DECATUR COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Sunday marks five years since the death of Decatur County Sheriff’s Office Captain Justin Bedwell, according to the agency.
Investigators said Bedwell was critically injured after being shot while assisting Seminole County deputies attempting to stop a vehicle that fled a traffic stop.

Suspects charged
Brad Phillips, and his brother, Troy Arthur Phillips were charged with his murder
Troy Phillips was found guilty on all the charges including malice murder. Brad Phillips was sentenced to life without parole with an additional 55 years in prison.
Remembering Bedwell
The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office said Bedwell served with the agency for nearly 20 years.
“Capt. Bedwell will always be remembered by our office and community,” the sheriff’s office said. “The impact of his outstanding life is not diminished by his death, but serves as a reminder of the good we can all do in our lives and the lasting memory that creates.”
