ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — The Albany Chapter of Jack and Jill is commemorating Carole Robertson Day on Sept. 19.

Robertson was a member of the Jack and Jill teen group in Birmingham, Alabama. She was 14 years old when she was killed in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing on Sept. 15, 1963.

It was later decided that all chapters would participate in an activity that would shed light on human rights, civil rights and racial harmony that she did not get to enjoy.

For this year’s activity, the Albany Chapter is partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit organization committed to making sure that no kid sleeps on the floor and that each one has their own bed.

Along with building beds, the chapter is also collecting new twin bedding, pillows, sheets, towels and pajamas to support families.
