ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A 29-year-old man was arrested after police say he fired several shots inside an Albany home while his mother was inside, then barricaded himself in a shed.

According to the Albany Police Department, officers responded to the 700 block of 16th Avenue just before 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 about someone barricaded inside.

Police say Taylor Sanford, 29, fired several shots inside the house while his mother was there. She was able to leave the home and call police from a neighbor’s house.

Officers found shell casings inside the home, confirming that shots had been fired, according to police.

Sanford then barricaded himself inside a shed behind the house with a handgun, police said.

A hostage negotiation team and SWAT officers also responded to the scene and after getting a search warrant, officers were able to enter and arrest Sanford.

Sanford was charged with:

• Aggravated assault-family violence-firearm
• Possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies.

He was taken to the Dougherty County Jail.

No injuries were reported in the information provided by police.
