THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WCTV) - The husband of a woman who was hit and killed in Thomasville earlier this week is remembering her as a kind and incredible person.

Georgia State Patrol says the crash happened Monday afternoon on East Jackson Street.

Liliana Rucci was exploring Thomasville with her mother and her dog when she was struck and killed by a car while walking back to her parked car on the shoulder of the street.

“My wife did not deserve this,” Liliana’s husband, Drieggio Rucci, said. “You know why she was up there; she just wanted to show her mom a little bit of Georgia.”

Drieggio and Liliana were from South Florida, but were in the area for his traveling nurse contract.

“I told her, listen, I have to start on Monday; I have orientation, and I told her, please drive down; it’s like seven to eight hours,” Rucci said. “Please drive down, sweetheart, you’ll be fine.”

Rucci said Liliana and their dog were hit while she was out exploring with her mother.

“I saw she(the driver) had plenty of time to hit the brakes, but no, she took my wife; she took our dog,” he said.

Rucci said his wife was a cancer survivor who spent her whole life helping others.

“My wife was an incredible person,” Rucci said. “I cannot emphasize that enough; she was a beautiful person inside and out.”

This December would have marked 10 years of marriage for the couple. Now, Rucci said he has to continue life without her.

Georgia State Patrol told WCTV that charges are pending for the driver while the investigation is ongoing.

A GoFundMe has been set up in Liliana’s honor.
