ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - As students begin summer break, Albany Police Chief Michael Persley is encouraging young people to stay focused and make positive choices during the months ahead.
Chief Persley shared a message to youth, parents and the community, stressing that summer can be a time of growth and opportunity, but also a time when idle time can lead to poor decisions.
He encouraged young people to get involved in positive activities, church programs, mentorship opportunities and community organizations that help build skills and character.
Persley also reminded parents that their involvement matters. “Know where your children are, who they are with and what they are doing. A few minutes of supervision can make a difference,” Persley said.
He added that keeping youth on the right path takes the entire community working together, including mentors, coaches, churches and local organizations.
Chief Persley also had a message for graduating seniors, encouraging them to stay focused on their goals and future plans. “Your choices will shape your future,” Persley said. “Mistakes do not have to become a pattern. Learn from them and stay focused.”
Persley said the community must continue promoting positive programs and opportunities for young people throughout the summer months.
