NEW YORK (TNND) — President Donald Trump must still pay $83.3 million to E. Jean Carroll after a federal appeals court upheld a civil jury's findings that he repeatedly attacked the advice columnist on social media after she accused him of sexual assault.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Trump's appeal of the defamation award, finding that the “jury's damages awards are fair and reasonable.”
In December, a federal appeals court upheld a jury’s finding that Trump sexually abused Carroll in the mid-1990s in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room, affirming the first $5 million judgment against him.
She said Trump slammed her against a dressing room wall, pulled down her tights and forced himself on her.
Trump has repeatedly denied the claims and accused Carroll of making it up to sell her book.
The second civil trial took place while Trump was running for president in 2024. He portrayed the lawsuit as an effort to smear his campaign for the White House.
Carroll said the $83.3 million from the defamation trial would be given to something Trump hates.
I'd like to give the money to something Donald Trump hates -- that will cause him pain for something, to give money to certain things. Perhaps a fund for the women who have been sexually assaulted by Donald Trump," she said on Good Morning America.
