VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) — Two men, a set of brothers, were arrested Monday, Jan. 5, after their vehicle crashed into the window of the Jersey Mike’s restaurant on North Ashley Street in Valdosta. When a Valdosta Police Department (VPD) officer attempted to detain one of the brothers, he punched the officer.

Harvey Caleb Freeman (18) and Harvey Anthony Freeman (21) were both taken to the Lowndes County Jail following the incident.

When VPD officers arrived at the scene, they found marijuana inside the Freemans’ vehicle, and Harvey Caleb Freeman was subsequently detained without incident, VPD said in a press release.

A second officer was reportedly trying to detain Harvey Anthony Freeman when he began yelling at the officer not to touch him.

Harvey Anthony Freeman then “struck the officer on the side of [the officer’s] face with his fist,” VPD said.

According to the press release, Harvey Anthony Freeman continued to physically resist by trying to kick at the officers after they gained control over him.

“Thankfully, there were no injuries when the vehicle drove through the window of a restaurant. There was absolutely no reason for one of the brothers to physically assault our officer, who was doing his job to investigate the accident. If you resist our officers, you will be taken to jail.”

The brothers were charged with the following:

Harvey Caleb Freeman, 18:

• Driving under the influence (misdemeanor)
• Possession of marijuana (misdemeanor)

Harvey Anthony Freeman, 21:

• Obstruction of an officer (felony)
