Description

CAIRO, Ga. (WALB) - The Cairo Police Department thanked local agencies for their assistance during a road safety check conducted Jan. 9.

The Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety assisted with Friday’s safety check, according to the Cairo Police Department.

The safety check was part of a larger statewide mission conducted in partnership with the Georgia Governor’s Office. Police officers from multiple law enforcement agencies in Cairo participated in the operation.

The road safety check was designed to improve roadway safety, according to the police department.

According to the Cairo Police Department, the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety supports more than 10 regional Traffic Enforcement Networks that cover all 159 Georgia counties. The networks bring law enforcement agencies together for training, coordination and joint enforcement.

The collaboration allows agencies to share resources and work as one team to reduce impaired driving and prevent serious crashes, according to the department.
