Description
GEORGIA (WALB) – Time is running out for high school students to apply for an opportunity that could launch their careers in wildlife and natural resource management.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is now accepting applications for its 2026 Career Academy, a weeklong summer program designed to introduce students to careers in law enforcement, fisheries, wildlife management, and habitat stewardship.

Former participant Lily Allen says the experience shaped her career path and opened doors to lasting professional relationships. “Making those connections during Career Academy absolutely changed my life,” said Allen. “When that week is over, you don’t lose those connections. Those people wanted me to be successful—and having people backing you after that week is what’s gotten me to move forward in DNR.”
After completing the program, Allen secured a position with DNR as a fisheries technician at the Evans County Public Fishing Area.
Haley Chafin, Manager of External Affairs for Georgia DNR, says the immersive experience offers students access to places and professionals they wouldn’t encounter otherwise. “You’re visiting Georgia’s state parks, education centers, and fish hatcheries,” Chafin said. “That type of hands-on experience is something they couldn’t gain anywhere else.”
The DNR Career Academy is open to high school sophomores and juniors, and participants may also earn dual enrollment credit toward fish and wildlife programs at technical colleges across the state.

The deadline to apply is November 17, 2025. Interested students can find the application link for the 2026 Georgia DNR Career Academy here.
