Description

LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — A Lee County couple is asking for the public’s help identifying a man caught on surveillance video walking onto their property and pouring gasoline around their carport while they were not home.

Suspicious Activity Caught on Camera

Nate Hominger and his wife said they got a notification on their phones showing someone was on their property.

The couple lives in a less-populated area near Laramore Road.

“It was kind of concerning because the area is not so populated, and just seeing somebody on your property, it just, it’s kind of alarming,” Hominger said.

Delayed Camera Feed Heightens Tension

Hominger said he tried to watch the camera’s live feed, but it was not working. Instead, the videos he and his wife were viewing were about 30 seconds behind real time. That delay became especially concerning when they saw the man carrying what appeared to be a gas can.

Hominger said he triggered the home’s alarm, but the man continued pouring gasoline.

“Is he going to light the place on fire, or what do I have to do?” Hominger said.

Hominger said the man stayed on the property for about five minutes after the alarm was activated before leaving.

Emergency Responders Investigate Carport

Law enforcement got there about 10 minutes after the man left, according to Hominger. The fire department also responded and investigated the area.

Hominger said firefighters could smell gasoline inside the carport and told the couple it would need to ventilate.

WATCH ON ‘WHAT’S GOING ON’:

Homeowners Share Video to Raise Awareness

The incident has left the homeowners concerned about why someone would enter their property and pour gasoline there.

Hominger said he has never experienced a random person coming onto his property before and does not believe there’s an ongoing safety issue in the neighborhood.

He said the couple’s decision to share the surveillance footage online is primarily about awareness and getting the person’s image in front of as many people as possible.

“The main motive is to try to get his face out there and try to get this person kind not to do something to somebody else,” Hominger said.

The couple’s social media post generated significant attention, but Hominger said they have not received a confirmed identification.

The couple is hoping someone recognizes the man and can provide investigators with information.

They are asking people in the area to remain aware of unusual activity and report information that could help investigators.

“Just be on the watch for some unusual activity in that area and, yeah, just stay safe, because you just never know,” Hominger said.
