Drainage pipeMount AiryFloodingChildDeadRainfallParentsVictim(WBFF) — A boy died after being swept into a drainage pipe in Mount Airy, a spokesman with the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Department said.
The incident reportedly occurred just after 5 p.m. on Thursday amid major rainfall and flooding across the region.
"Everybody is shocked," the spokesman said.
The boy was initially reported as being 13 years old, and while the spokesman later said that may not be the case, the boy's age was eventually confirmed as 13 years old.
The child's parents have been notified; however, the victim's name has not yet been released.
