LONDON (TNND) — Singer Chris Brown was arrested in England on Thursday for allegedly hitting a producer with a bottle at a London nightclub in 2023.
The 36-year-old was taken into custody at 2 a.m. outside the Lowry Hotel in Manchester on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, Metropolitan Police confirmed to The Sun.
"He has been taken into custody where he remains," police said in a statement without naming the artist. "The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit."
Producer Abe Diaw told The Sun he was hospitalized after Brown beat him in an unprovoked attack at the Tape nightclub.
Diaw claimed Brown hit him over the head with a bottle before punching and kicking him as he lay on the floor.
A 12 million pound ($16 million) lawsuit was filed by Diaw in October 2023 over the alleged assault, which he said left him unconscious, People reported.
Brown was set to embark on his Breezy Bowl tour to celebrate 20 years of his career with stops in Amsterdam, Manchester, London, Dublin and Glasgow.
The musician has a history of legal problems dating back to 2009 when he was arrested for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Rihanna. He pleaded guilty to felony assault.
In a documentary titled, "Chris Brown: A History of Violence," a woman accused Brown of raping her while on Sean "Diddy" Combs' yacht.
Combs is currently on trial in New York and faces charges of sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, transportation for purposes of prostitution, and racketeering conspiracy.
