City of Edison Moving Forward After Former Clerk’s Federal Indictment

Description

EDISON, Ga. (WALB) - The City of Edison has announced in a release a significant development in its ongoing efforts to restore financial integrity and transparency to local government. Federal prosecutors have indicted former City Clerk Fincher on multiple counts of financial misconduct, marking a major milestone in a two-year investigation by FBI agents.

Officials say Fincher faces three counts of violating Title 18, United States Code, Section 666(a)(1)(A), which prohibits the misuse of government credit cards. She has also been charged with one count related to falsifying her payroll records—documents that fell under the City of Edison’s direct oversight.

Mayor Shirley Worthy and members of the city’s administrative staff have been collaborating with federal investigators for approximately two years. While the initial focus was on rebuilding the City’s finances and restoring public trust in government, holding individuals accountable for misusing taxpayers’ funds has remained a constant priority throughout the investigation.

“Throughout this process, we were asked to refrain from making public statements,” the city leadership noted in their announcement. “We respected that request to ensure the integrity of the federal investigation.”

City officials acknowledge that the indictment alone cannot undo the challenges residents have faced due to financial mismanagement. Many of these hardships continue to affect citizens today.

However, the city remains steadfast in its commitment to three core goals:

  • Rebuilding trust in city government
  • Strengthening financial oversight to prevent future misconduct
  • Moving the city forward with renewed integrity

“Thank you for your patience and continued support as we work to restore and protect the integrity of the City of Edison,” the statement concludes.
