CLINCH COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — The community in Clinch County is mourning the loss of a student following a tragic accident earlier this week.

According to the student’s mother, the accident happened Wednesday, March 11, night. She shared on social media that her son, Jonah Pittman, suffered serious injuries including a collapsed lung and six broken ribs. He was placed on a ventilator as doctors worked to help him breathe.

Despite those efforts, his mother confirmed her son had died.

In a statement, Clinch County School officials said they are grieving the loss of a member of their student body.

“CCHS mourns the loss of a member of our student body. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”

School leaders say counselors and local pastors will be available on campus for students who may need support while grieving.

Jonah’s mother, Kristen Nicole, described her son as someone deeply loved by many.

“My baby boy. He was loved by so many. I miss you baby so much. My mama heart is in pieces,” she wrote.
