VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - State officials and local law enforcement agencies held a funeral service for Officer Caleb Abney, on Sunday, March 1 at Lowndes High School’s Martin Stadium.

When the service ended there was a procession.

First responder instructions

First responders who wish to participate in the funeral procession from Lowndes High School to the cemetery must be parked at the school by 12:15 p.m. Officials said they should enter campus from Norman Drive via Carlton Adams Road. After parking, all first responders are asked to proceed to the sidewalk in front of Martin Stadium on the home side to form the Honor Line by 12:15 p.m.

First responders not taking part in the procession are instructed to follow public parking directions but must still be parked by 12:15 p.m.

Public parking and entry

Public parking will not be available at the Band/Soccer/Track Complex, the Board of Education, Touchdown Alley behind the school to Club House Drive, or on the visitor’s side of Martin Stadium.

Members of the public attending the service should enter the campus from Norman Drive via the Main Entrance, located between Discount Tire and Bed’R Furniture & Mattress, or through the Student Entrance next to A&M Self-Storage. Handicap parking will be available but limited.

Seating

Seating inside Martin Stadium will be divided. First responders will have reserved seating in Section A on the home side and will enter through the Touchdown Club Ticket Gate. Members of the public will have seating in all other sections on the home side and should enter through the North Home Ticket Gate. Members of the media are instructed to report to the press box on the home side of the stadium.

Procession route

At the conclusion of the service, specific dismissal instructions will be provided. First responders are asked to return directly to their vehicles and await further direction.

Officials said the procession to the cemetery will include family members, guests of the family, and first responders only.

The procession route will exit the campus from Club House Drive, travel west on North St. Augustine Road, north on Val Tech Road, west on Shiloh Road, east on Morven Road, east on Highway 122 West, north on Highway 41 North, east on Fellowship Road, and end at Fellowship Baptist Church.

Law enforcement officials are asking everyone attending to follow all instructions to ensure an orderly and respectful service.
