DONALSONVILLE, Ga. (WALB) - A Donalsonville councilwoman is suing the city and seven other city officials after she says they launched a smear campaign against her.
In the 16-page lawsuit, the city of Donalsonville, Councilman Mitchell Blanks, Councilman Travis Brooks, Chief of Police Kem Pugh, Assistant Chief of Police Barbara Barber, Donalsonville police officer Shelby Gale, investigator Christopher Craft and City Manager Jeffrey Hatcher are all listed as defendants.
According to the lawsuit, the defendants are being sued in their individual capacity and official capacity for the city.
In January of 2024, Councilwoman Mitzy Moye threatened to sue the city with an ante litem notice.
According to the lawsuit filed July 31, Moye is suing for “due process violations against the city of Donalsonville, Georgia, violations of the city charter, abuse of process, libel and conspiracy to illegally remove an elected official.”
Her legal team is requesting a trial by a jury of 12 in hopes of recovering, “…any and all other, different or additional damages, and expenses… to which she may be entitled.”
WALB reached out to all defendants in the lawsuit, by phone and email for comment. They did not get back with us.
