TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - An arrest has been made in connection with a deadly Tallahassee sports bar shooting involving a “large physical altercation” earlier this month, a probable cause affidavit says.

Lavarion Williams, 23, was charged with second-degree murder along with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, per court documents. Williams was previously convicted in 2023 for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell, per records.

Tallahassee police say officers responded to reports of a shooting at Zingales Billiards & Sports Bar at 1:31 a.m. Sunday, April 5. First responders arrived to find a man suffering from gunshot wounds “just outside the business,” the affidavit states.

The victim was identified as 32-year-old Tevin Gaines of Bainbridge, Georgia, who was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, according to previous reporting.

Detectives reviewed videos from witnesses that depicted the “large physical altercation” during which the shooting occurred. Police said the videos show “overlapping time frames of the fight” but do not capture the entire sequence of events.

In one video, Gaines is seen on top of Williams before security guards separate the two, according to the affidavit. Detectives said that after the men were separated and several feet apart, Williams was seen retrieving a firearm and shooting Gaines with his left hand.

Multiple witnesses and “close associates” of Williams identified him as the shooter in videos of the incident, according to court documents. Detectives also obtained phone records that they said placed Williams at the bar at the time of the shooting.

The gun used in the shooting was recovered by a witness at the home of someone known to Williams’ relatives, court documents read. It was turned over to detectives, who later confirmed through analysis that it was the same firearm used in the incident, court records show.
