Description
DOUGHERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — Court has adjourned for the week in the trial of a Dougherty County woman accused of killing her boyfriend in March 2024.
Jenna Colley faces charges of felony murder, aggravated assault with family violence, and possession of a cutting tool during the commission of a crime in connection with the death of Ken Covin.
The state presented its closing arguments Friday, Feb. 20. Dougherty County District Attorney Greg Edwards argued that Colley’s account of the night Covin was stabbed does not align with the evidence presented in the case.
Edwards highlighted that the couple was standing when Covin was stabbed. He said wound patterns on Covin’s hip contradict Colley’s claim that he was on top of her, beating and choking her. A bruise on Covin’s face, Edwards noted, suggests he fell during the incident.
“She said that Ken Covin was on top of her and choking her and punching away, punching away with his weight and choking her. And that is where she stabbed him to get him off her,” Edwards said. “The invincible evidence is completely against that. That shirt that you saw that she was wearing has absolutely no blood. And you saw that this victim had copious cuts on his hands and copious wounds in his chest. And just like my tie hanging down, blood goes down. And if the defendant was on top of the defendant, that shirt that she represents that she was wearing should have been blood-soaked.”
The state also noted that the defense is expected to reference past incidents during its closing arguments to support a self-defense claim. Prosecutors argued that history alone is insufficient to justify Colley’s actions in stabbing Covin in 2024.
Court is adjourned for the week.
