VIENNA, Ga. (WALB) — The Dooly County Schools(DCS) released a statement Wednesday, Oct. 7, after being alerted by students of a potential threat.

The statement said the threat targeted the safety of the students, teachers, and staff at Dooly County High School on Thursday, Oct. 8. According to DCS, its office worked closely with the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the origin of the threat.

DCS said following the investigation, the threat was determined to be unsubstantiated.

“The Dooly County Schools take the safety of our students and staff seriously. The district will resume school operations on Thursday, October 8, with extra precautions, including limiting student transitions throughout the day. The district made this decision in consultation with local law enforcement, who will also provide additional personnel on our campus tomorrow.”

The school system continued to say, “Today’s alert reminds us that we are safer when we work together. The district encourages students, employees and families to report any suspicious behavior to our local law enforcement.”

WALB is working to learn if any arrests were made following the threat, and how exactly the threat was made.
