ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Dougherty County is now accepting applications for its 2026 Summer Empowerment and Internship Program, which offers local students paid, hands-on experience in county government.
Interns earn $12 an hour, work up to 20 hours per week, and can log a maximum of 200 hours. The program runs from June 1 through July 24.
Available departments
Positions are available in the following county departments:
- County Police
- Finance
- Library
- Tax and Tag
- Elections
- Disaster Recovery
- Public Works
Eligibility requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Live in Dougherty County
- Be a 2026 high school graduate, an upcoming high school senior, or be enrolled in college or Turner Job Corps
- Be authorized to work in the United States
- Have a minimum 2.5 GPA
Applicants must also provide proof of enrollment or graduation, a transcript and a valid Georgia ID or driver’s license.
The application window opened Wednesday, March 18, and will close Saturday, April 18. Only 20 total spots are available.
