COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — A man from Douglas will spend the next six decades in state prison after being found guilty of child sex crimes.

The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday, Sept. 14 that Charlie Franklin Stevens, 38, was sentenced to 60 years in state prison for convictions out of Pierce County, and 40 years for convictions out of Coffee County. His sentences will be served at the same time for a total of 60 years.

The sheriff’s office says Stevens was first convicted of child molestation in Lowndes County back in 2018. He was put on the Georgia Sex Offender Registry in May of 2021. After moving to Coffee County, Stevens was still required to comply with the state’s registry requirements and probation conditions.

In October of 2024, Coffee County detectives started investigating a tip that Stevens was reaching out to a minor. Investigators found out Stevens had failed to provide officials with a secondary phone number he had, violating sex offender registry requirements. Officials say using that secondary phone number, Stevens was talking to a 12-year-old victim.

An examination of Stevens’ devices revealed child porn and evidence that he’d been enticing a child.

Stevens was then arrested at his home in Douglas and charged with failure to register as a sex offender, computer/electronic pornography, and enticing a child for indecent purposes.
