DUBLIN, Ga. (WGXA) — The Dublin City Board of Education has approved a deficit reduction plan amid the district's substantial financial crisis.
WGXA previously reported that the district is currently two years behind on its required audits, owes more than $6.6 million to the State Health Benefit Plan for unpaid premiums and faces a $12 million deficit by the end of 2025.
Since then, the Georgia State Superintendent called for the state General Assembly to introduce "sweeping reforms" to prevent financial crises, including the "severe budget shortfall" under investigation at Dublin City Schools.

Now, the school board has announced a step toward combating the issue.
In a release sent out by Dublin City Schools on Thursday, the district said it approved the Fiscal Year 2026 Deficit Reduction Plan, which the board believes will "create a solid foundation for the district moving forward."
Dublin City Schools Interim Superintendent Marcee Pool gave a statement in the release following the plan's approval, emphasizing the plan's viability and protecting students and teachers.
"Our focus has been on stabilizing our finances while protecting the heart of our mission -- our students and teachers, wrote Interim Superintendent Pool. "Through collaboration with GaDOE, our interim finance department, and our local Board, we've built a strong plan that ensures Dublin City Schools remains financially sound while continuing our No. 1 strategic goal of high achievement and success for all students."
While the release from the district spoke on the plan's approval, it did not describe its details or any specific deficit reduction actions.
