COOK COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A man who escaped while handcuffed during a road check Thursday night has been recaptured, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the suspect, described as a Hispanic man last seen wearing a white shirt and shorts, escaped during a road check near Nell Purvis Road and Highway 37 West. He was last seen running south through a wooded area parallel to Nell Purvis Road.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the man has been captured and is in their custody.

Residents no longer need to shelter or lock down because of the alert.
