MOULTRIE, Ga. (WALB) - Colquitt County residents will cast their ballots for county commission chairman in the May 2026 primary election.

Incumbent Denver Braswell said the chairman’s role includes running meetings and representing what the people want and need.

If reelected, Braswell said he plans to build on the work from his current term while focusing on solutions that reduce the tax burden on residents.

“To continue a lot of the things that we’ve put in place since I’ve been on the board,” Braswell said. “A lot of cost saving measures and to continue to try to provide the best service possible to the people and do it in a way that minimizes the amount of taxes we have to collect.”

Seaborn Folsom is running against Braswell. Folsom has a master’s degree in political science and said, if elected, he will focus on job creation and helping farmers.

“I plan on taking the county into a direction of prosperity, job growth, security, and I definitely want to work with the farmers and make sure they have all the updated equipment they need to be able to grow their crops,” Folsom said.

On Feb. 21, 2026, Folsom was arrested on battery and terroristic threats charges during a domestic dispute at his home, according to an incident report from the Moultrie Police Department.

When asked about his arrest, Folsom said voters have a right to know about it.

“I am not guilty, though,” Folsom said. “And let’s go back to the Founding Fathers here for a second, okay? And the constitutional law— It says a man is innocent until proven guilty. And I have not been proven guilty in a court of law or anything else.”

The primary election is May 19 and early voting starts April 27.

The deadline to register to vote is April 20. To check your voter registration status and to find your polling place, visit Georgia’s My Voter Page.
