Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The FBI Atlanta office has released a new video and educational materials to help families discuss and avoid scams during the holiday season.
The bureau advised families gathering for the holidays to use the time to talk with loved ones who may be vulnerable to scams. The video and a downloadable pamphlet are available at https://www.fbi.gov/holidaytalk.
FBI Atlanta said scammers target people’s kindness and generosity during the holidays. The bureau said most people who fall for scams are not careless or naive, but are trusting and in the holiday spirit.
The FBI offered five tips to avoid scams:
• Don’t trust promoted links
• Inspect sender details and verify
• Filter unknown callers
• Use password or email managers
• Never share multi-factor codes
People who believe they have fallen victim to a scam should report the incident to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center
