Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - As the school year winds down, Feeding the Valley’s Albany branch and WALB are rallying the community to help fight childhood hunger with a special PB&J Food Drive on Friday, May 16th. The event aims to collect jars of peanut butter and jelly to provide quick, nutritious meals for children who may lose access to school meals during the summer months.
In Dougherty County, approximately 38.4% of children under 18 live in poverty, highlighting the urgent need for community support to ensure local youth have access to nutritious food during the summer months.
Feeding the Valley, one of Georgia’s largest food banks, serves thousands of food-insecure families across Southwest Georgia. During the summer, the need increases dramatically—especially for children who rely on school breakfasts and lunches for daily nutrition.
The PB&J Food Drive focuses on collecting shelf-stable, kid-friendly items that don’t require cooking and are easy to serve.

- Location: Feeding the Valley Food Bank
