In Oct. 2024, WALB reported that an employee was under investigation following sexual misconduct complaints made to the Americus Police Department.
According to the indictment, McCluster was charged and accused of violating his oath of office for “engaging in sexual acts while on duty in his patrol vehicle.”
The indictment also said that McCluster unlawfully solicited the victim to perform an act of sodomy.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the former deputy turned himself in on June 11, 2025. His bond was set for $1,000. He was bonded out the same day.
Records show that McCluster has entered a not guilty plea.
WALB has reached out to the sheriff’s office for comment, as McCluster was employed as a Sumter County deputy at the time of the allegations. We have also reached out to the district attorney’s office for when the case is expected in court.
