Description
ATLANTA, Ga. (WALB) - A new bill would require Georgia school districts to consider locally approved charter schools for e-SPLOST sales tax funding, a pot of money that currently prioritizes traditional public schools — often leaving charters with little to no money for buildings or technology.
Sen. Rashaun Kemp, D-Atlanta, said the quality of a child’s education should not depend on the type of school they attend.
“SB 475 levels the playing field and ensures every child has the opportunity to succeed in the classroom,” Kemp said. “This bill sets our children up for success by making sure their schools have a fair shot at education funding.”
The bill has cleared the Senate Education Committee.
