Safety tips from Georgia Power

Georgia Power also urged customers to follow these safety tips ahead of the storm:

  • Charge devices such as cell phones and prepare or restock an emergency kit, which may include canned goods, prescription medications and flashlights.
  • Watch for and do not touch downed wires. Georgia Power said customers should never attempt to remove tree branches from power lines, as downed lines may be hidden by debris or fallen trees after a storm.
  • Do not step in standing water or on saturated ground where downed lines may be present, as they could be electrified.
  • Watch for Georgia Power crews working across the state. Georgia Power said drivers should move over one lane for utility vehicles stopped on the side of the road, which is required by Georgia law.
