ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Most of Georgia’s state prisons are on lockdown Thursday morning due to a security threat, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDOC).

On Tuesday, four inmates got into what officials believe to be a gang-related fight at Hays State Prison in Chattooga County, the department said. Three of them were taken to the hospital and later returned to the prison.

As officials learned more, they locked down the other facilities “out of an abundance of caution” for fear of retaliation. The lockdown will continue until further notice, “with security threat assessments conducted intermittently as investigations are ongoing,” the agency said in a statement to Atlanta News First.
