Description

ATLANTA, Ga. (WALB) - Governor Brian Kemp issued an executive order July 17 suspending Kelvin Owens, mayor of Camilla, of his office effective immediately.

This comes after Owens was indicted on May 28, 2025 for charges of election interference and conspiracy to commit election fraud. The governor’s office was made aware of the indictment and created a commission to review Owens’ alleged offenses on June 17.

Gov. Kemp suspends Camilla mayor from office effective immediately

On Tuesday, July 15, the commission found that Owens’ indictment adversely affected his administration as the mayor of Camilla. Therefore, they decided that it was in the public’s best interest that Owens be suspended from office, according to Gov. Kemp’s Office.

Following that decision, Gov. Kemp signed an executive order suspending Owens from the mayor’s office “immediately and without further action.”

WALB has reached out to Owens for comment on this matter, but we have not heard back at this time. Stay with us.
