GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) - Nearly 90 people came out to enjoy a few fizzy drinks with the Grady County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) at their ‘Soda with a Sheriff’ event.

The mixer was held at First and Broad Pizza Co.

Grady County Sheriff Earl Prince said it’s all a part of their community outreach goal.

“Being here for the community, I don’t want to be the sheriff that’s sitting behind the desk that is not approachable, I want people to feel like they can come and talk to me and ask me stuff,” he said.

GCSO said they want to connect with residents in a fun, relaxed environment and have open conversations about what’s happening in the community.

Sheriff Prince said it’s a great way to give a voice to the people they serve.

“They know that they can trust me, they know that they can trust my staff that I have here and that’s a big plus when you’re trying to take care of the community,” he said.

There were games, food, giveaways and lots of free soda.

Sheriff Prince said they plan to have more events just like this in the future.

“It gives them a voice, it makes them feel like they’re a part of the Sheriff’s Office and what we’re doing. I want them to know that their Sheriff’s Office is just an extension of them,” he said.
