TERRELL COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — New details have been released following a serious two-vehicle crash that happened Wednesday afternoon in Terrell County.
According to preliminary findings from Georgia State Patrol Post 10 in Americus, the crash happened on June 25, at around 2:35 p.m. on Georgia 520 near mile marker 18, just outside of Sasser.
The investigation revealed that 67-year-old woman of Dawson, GA, was driving a 2019 Nissan Sentra westbound on GA 520, when her vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane. The Nissan struck a 2014 Toyota Camry, driven by 41-year-old woman of Nicholls, GA, in a head-on collision.
First responders quickly arrived on the scene. One woman was airlifted to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The other was also taken to Phoebe Putney with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.
The crash caused significant delays, with the eastbound lanes of GA 520 shut down for an extended period while crews worked to clear the scene and GSP conducted their investigation.
Officials continue to look into the circumstances that led to the crash.
