Description
COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) – A new court hearing regarding the controversial chicken house operation proposed near the Satilla River has been scheduled for September 29, 2025, at the Coffee County Courthouse.
The initial Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against the operation expired today, but Judge Kelly Brooks extended it until the upcoming hearing date. The plant, planned to be built alongside the Satilla River, has drawn strong opposition from local residents and environmental advocates.
Concerns center on the potential environmental impact to the river and surrounding communities. WALB’s Taylor Lewis plans to speak with several key voices on the matter, including Anne Bishop, a descendant affected by the project; George Lott of the Evens Bowers Firm, offering legal insight; and Shannon Gregory, Satilla Riverkeeper, who will address environmental risks.
This is a developing story, and more details will be available in WALB’s later newscasts.
