Description
AMERICUS, Ga. (WALB) – Drivers are urged to use extreme caution when traveling along Highway 19 south of Americus due to a wood chip fire near the intersection of Little Bear Branch Road.
Officials say the fire is currently under control and being closely monitored. However, because of its size and the nature of the material burning, crews are unable to fully extinguish it at this time.
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is placing warning signs in the area as smoke continues to drift across the highway, at times becoming very dense and limiting visibility.
Authorities remind drivers to slow down, keep headlights on, and remain alert when traveling through the affected area. The situation will be monitored until the fire burns itself out.
