BRANTLEY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Federal help is now on the way as crews continue battling multiple wildfires across South Georgia.
The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency has approved funding to assist in fighting two major fires, including the Highway 82 Fire in Brantley County.
Federal officials say the fires have burned more than 11,000 acres and are threatening over 1,000 homes, along with critical infrastructure in the area.

The funding comes through FEMA’s Fire Management Assistance Grant Program, which can cover up to 75 percent of eligible firefighting costs.
State and local crews remain on the front lines as containment efforts continue.
