What the investigation found

A Georgia State Patrol trooper from GSP-Douglas responded to investigate a crash between a commercial motor vehicle and a bicycle, according to the agency.

The investigation found a Madd Gear bicycle was traveling south on Rhine Road, driven by Sean A. McLemore, 36, of Fitzgerald. McLemore was riding against traffic, according to the Georgia State Patrol. He was wearing dark clothing, and no lights were located on the bicycle, troopers said.

McLemore was struck by a 2013 Freightliner that was traveling north on Rhine Road, according to the agency. After impact, the Freightliner crossed the southbound lane of Rhine Road and came to rest in the west ditch, troopers said.

McLemore died at the scene due to his injuries, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The driver of the commercial motor vehicle, Cleve Hamilton, 40, of Rhine, was transported to Dorminy Medical Center by Ben Hill EMS for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to the agency.

Family seeking donations

McLemore’s wife, Brooke McLemore, said in a social media post that the couple did not have life insurance and is seeking donations to cover funeral and cremation expenses.

She said in the post that her husband was the only one working at the time and that any leftover funds would go toward living expenses.
